My parents have a Vista PC, DSL internet with a router. I have a Vista PC,
DSL internet with a router. Can I use Remote Assistance to help them out
when they have problems? I've tried this in the past with older messenger
and OS and had no real luck assuming the NAT on both ends causing the
problem. Is there an easy way to set this up or will this work out of the
box now? Any assistance would be appreciated as they are a fair drive away.

Cheers!

Cant offer advice on Remote Assistance. I personally use this to remote
support many pc's in the UK.
http://www.teamviewer.com/download/v...amViewerQS.exe

This program allows your parents to assign an ID and Password to allow you
into their pc, this is passed to you by phone. Once you have it, you can
fire up team viewer on your pc, enter the access code and password on your
pc and hey presto, you connect to your parents pc with full screen, mouse
and keyboard control from your end. This product is free for non commercial
use.

I hope this helps.

Bob

Richard,

It shouldn't be a problem to get into each desktop by usign Remote Desktop
with MSN,
but be sure both side's remote desktop are enabled.
Right click "MY Computer", select properties, abd click tab "Remote", check
out "Remote Assistance" and "Remote Desktop"

Good luck,

Peter

Hi Bob,

Thanks for the link. Unfortunately I can't seem to get Team Viewer to run
on my Vista PC. It starts up but never gets past "Activating Team Viewer"
and will not let me initiate a connection. As support is minimal at best for
the free version, unfortunately I didn't get any farther with it. Appreciate
your help regardless.
Thanks!

Hi Peter,

I followed your suggestions, and checked "Allow Remote Assistance" (it was
already enabled) but there was no option for Remote Desktop. Do I need to
install something? I had my parents initiate Remote Assistance from Live
Messenger, it prompted them for a password for the assistance and then
nothing happened. Any further suggestions?

Thanks!
