Hello,

I have a Windows Server 2003 domain with 6 domain controllers and various
other servers, all using R1.

I would like to deploy 6 new print servers and make use of the active
directory printing functionality that is a part of R2.

What do I need in terms of licensing to accomplish this?

I understand that I would need to buy 6 Server 2003 R2 licenses for the new
servers themselves. I also understand that I need to run adprep to update
the schema. Does this update the schema to an "R2" version domainwide, which
would require a license upgrade for my other servers as well?

I'm not sure exactly how this works. I appreciate any input or explanations!

Thank you!

Subject of post should read Server 2003 R2, not R3.

Thanks!

Mark,
No, you need R2 on the servers where you use R2 features, e.g DFSR,

Hello Mark,

You are right all new servers need a R2 license and you have to run adprep
command if you like to use it on domain controllers. Adprep command will
not add the R2 feature's to the existing servers, for that you have to install
R2 also on them.

Best regards
