Can I use my wireless at a friend's place who has a high speed connection
but no wireless router?

Only if there is another wireless access point nearby to which you can
connect to.

Hi,

What do you plan on connecting to if he has no wireless router? Is his
connection one of the modem/router types commonly used nowadays? Does he
have a wireless access point?

Well you could work wired to it, but wireless does not work if there is
not a wireless connection in the area.

Thanks for answering.
Would it be possible to just plug her line into my computer and be able to
access the internet?
These questions sound dumb but I am new to wireless and would really like to
be able to take it with me when I go to visit her.
Her computer is not wireless and she has a regular high speed hookup.
Thanks

Well, if its setup to be shared, meaning your friend's wireless is shared,
you should be able to connect to the net. When I go to my brothers whose,
its setup automatically for me to connect to the net, at first he had to
enter the routers credentials and encryption key then have it saved during
the Connect to Wireless network wizard.

No, of course not. That's like asking if you can use your vacuum
cleaner at your friends house if he has no electricity.

Hi,

Yes, as long as your laptop has a LAN port (the wide one), you can plug in
and use her connection in most cases. The few that you can't are because the
service provider locks the connection by mac address. You should have your
friend check about her connection modem, many of the ones used in the US now
include a wireless access point.

Yes - leech off a neighbor or get him a wireless router.

Are you smoking dope or what? There is NO wireless router at the OP's
friend's place. Can you read? Of course your stupid top posting has dropped
everything below your "sig" line. Learn how to post on Usenet.

Cheers.
