utorun stops working

Hi - Autorun has recently stopped working in windows vista ultimate. The
default options are set in control panel to 'ask me everytime' but i am now
never prompted when i insert a disk of any kind - please can you help

Have you looked at the AutoPlay app in Control Panel?

Is the box checked? Does your disk match the category you have 'ask'
selected for?

Troubleshoot AutoPlay problems - Windows Vista Help:

1. Click the Start button , click All Programs, click Accessories, and
then right-click Command Prompt.

2. Click Run as administrator.

3. At the command prompt, type net start shellhwdetection, and then press
ENTER.

4. Restart your computer.

The service shellhwdetection was already running so this is not causing the
issue - any further ideas
