V4 on XP SP2

I notice you get an applet-download prompt if you, as I did, were to click on
an old link to Winup, like

windowsupdate.microsoft.com/catalog/en....

I was chicken, and thought I'd ask here first.

Will this actually plant the V4 gizmo on an XP SP2 machine? Will said gizmo
interoperate with the installed v5? Will it do anything nuclear to the
registry?
