Hello,

I finally got the v5 update site working....
After 1 week of trying....
I'd like to thank everyone for their help.
And what did the trick? Well, deleting the "softwaredistribution" folder did
it!
Once again to all the people who gave me their suggestions, THANK YOU.

Kurt

Hi Kurt,

Great that you got it working!

This was the "Windows Update is looking for available updates..." hang
and "the green bar just keeps going and going and going and..."
problem, right?

Kurt, I have a similar problem. Could you provide more
detail of what you did? It would probably benefit many
others as well. Thanks, Joe

Hi

If you get a hanging "Windows Update is looking for available updates",
try this first (what Kurt did is step 2 further below):

1)
Click Start >> Run >>
Type the follow command in the Open box.
"net.exe stop wuauserv" (w/o quotes)
Press Ok

Repeat the same for the following commands:

regsvr32.exe wuapi.dll
regsvr32.exe wups.dll
regsvr32.exe wuaueng.dll
regsvr32.exe wucltui.dll
regsvr32.exe msxml3.dll
net.exe start wuauserv

Restart the machine and try WU site again.

2)

If the above didn't work, you can remove (or rename) the
Softwaredistribution folder (as Kurt did to solve the problem).

Follow step 2 here to do this:

Hi Torgeir,

yep, this was the "Windows Update is looking for available updates..." hang
and "the green bar just keeps going and going and going and..."
problem

I must say, looking back at it....the solution was the simplest thing you
can imagine.
You just have to know what to do offcourse... :-)

Txs once again...
Kurt

OK. I've tried both of these options now. I now get a
list of updates to install but it hangs at download. I
selected Windows Media Player 10 just for a test. I
clicked Install. A nice window opened with Installing
Updates as the title. In the window it said "The updates
are being downloaded and installed". It showed in the
Install Status window that Win Media Player 10 (updates 1
of 1) was being downloaded. It just sat there at 0 of
10mb. Once again I had to End Task using task manager.
This is really getting frustrating. I've been a Windows
customer since V3 and have never been involved in a
fiasco like this. Please let me know if there is anything
else I can try. Thank you very much for your help thus
far. I appreciate it. Joe
P.S. A new SoftwareDistribution folder was created.
