Howard,

See if this helps :

Register wuaueng.dll
1. Click Start.
2. Choose Run.
3. In the Run box, type
regsvr32 wuaueng.dll
4. Click OK.

Howard,

There is no error code 0x800A01A . The error code may be
0x800A01AD , because of the amount of numbers/letters ..

800A01AD <---It must contain eight numbers/letters

So I took a stab at the probable error code you posted. You might
check the WindowsUpdate.log in the WINDOWS folder for a possible
error code.

Have you installed XP SP2 or just the software controls for V5 ?

Sorry, complete error code is 0x800A01AE.
No I did not install SP2 (I do not have SP2 yet).
Yes, just the software controls for V5.
Thank you! /Howard

Hi

0x800A01AE is IXP_NNTP_NO_SUCH_ARTICLE_FOUND

The description on this error is:

"This can occur after a control selfupdate that has not fully
completed and requires a reboot."

Try to reboot your computer if you haven't tried it already. If
that doesn't help, I wiold guess that the software controls for
V5 is not properly installed on your computer.

Yes, I did reboot without success. the Windowsupdate.log doesn't not show any
entry. I suspect the software controls for V5 were not fully installed.
Where can I find the V5 update control patch or update program.
Thanks. /Howard

Neither does this feedback! What happened when you tried that
command? Did you try stopping the Automatic Updates service
before issuing it? What is your OS and version?

For more information about this stab at repair see my comments

Thanks. Yes, I have just complete all these steps. I believe that the
v.5windows code did not complete installing. Is there a KBxxxxxx or somehere
to download and reload the code? Thanks.

Hi,

Sorry to butt in here but i was wondering if you could answer this question
so that i can see what files, if any, have been downloaded/altered...

These files should be present in your system32 directory (found in windows).

wuapi.dll
wuaueng.dll
wuaueng1.dll
wuauserv.dll
wucltui.dll
wups.dll
wuweb.dll

Can you tell me the file version numbers?

Cheers,

-David Herman
