V64bit Vista Home Premium Problem, probably deleted system files.

A little while ago my avast virus scanner reported 2 viruses and asked me
what I should do with the files. Without thinking too much I pressed
'delete'. Unfortunately I think I deleted 2 system files which windows needs
to display folders and other content in popup windows.

Example: Outlook 2003's reminder windows are blank and it hangs every time a
reminder window opens and I have to end it via task manager.

Example 2: Photoshop's internal explorer shows all files and folders and I
can open files from there. But if I try to open a file through File - Open...
the file selection window stays blank.

I tried to use the oldest system restore point available but it didn't
resolve the problem. I tried to use the automatic repair function from the
Vista DVD but it didn't help either. I also tried to reinstall net framework
3 but that didn't help.

Would reinstalling the service pack 1 work? Or should I try to use the
'install in place feature' from the DVD. I read something about this feature
in another thread.

I tried to read the log of the anti virus application to find out which
files have been deleted but I can't see anything in the log window. It's all
white and blank there as well.

Any help would really be appreciated. I dont want to reinstall windows.
Thanks

Have you tried just re-installing the programs affected?

Best to try System Restore to just before your problem happened.

I tried the latest available system restore and one which was just before I
noticed it and that didn't fix the problem.
I tried to reinstall 2 of the programs and it didn't help either
So I have no clue what causes this issue.
