Validation in continuous loop (XP)

I'm having a problem with two of the pc's in my building (2 out of approx.
150).

The windows validation tool downloads and installs perfectly but then when I
go to validate the copy of windows, so that I can install the updates that I
need, I click to validate and then the screen changes to the validation
screen but then quickly switches back to the previous screen. It stays in
that continuous loop.
I can't get it out of this loop so that I can install the updates I need.
I've tried restarting numerous times but to no avail.

If there was a place to manually enter the product key and skip the auto
pick-up, it would work. Or just any way to bypass the validation would be
great.

Any ideas?

Thanks!
Rachel.

Ended up finding a fix that worked like a charm.

Quick edit to registry key:
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\Curre ntVersion\Internet Settings
Changed the value of "EnableAutodial" from "1" to "0".

Rachel,

Thank you for sharing your solution.

RegMon shows that the same change would occur using the Internet Properties
Connections tab by clicking on the Never dial a connection radio button.
