I sold this laptop with Windows XP Pro OEM to a customer almost a year ago.
My tech was onsite on Thursday Sept 9th, whenever he tried to validate the
laptop it failed. sais something about an invalid Volume Key License. So I
sysprep'd the laptop and re-entered the OEM license on the bottom of the
laptop. The key is B4RGV-PGRMG-CQT89-4VGC9-WD6DB. I recieved error message
saying I needed a valid key. After 20 minutes of being lost in MS phone
system I talked to customer engineer and they set up a ticket. About 20
minutes later MS called back. Service person generated a new key for me. NEW
KEY - TQBY2-2HVWK-W48JV-QRBQF-BCMJY. I received an invalid key again. What
should I do?

I was reading other messages and saw that a "repair install" with the
original CD. Should I try that with either of the 2 keys? Please reply by
Monday morning, Sept 12th. This is rush for customer.

Bob;
NEVER post a Product Key particularly a customers unless the customer is in
the habit of letting you give away the customers money to any stranger you
pas by.
You could try a Repair Installation with either key.

Bob if you sold a laptop with an OEM XP Installation I would have
thought you would have to be an M$ licensed agent or have bought the
Laptop via a licensed agent either way WTF are you doing posting
license keys on usenet?

If you mean by "validate" the laptop WGA Validation and you are sure
the original software / key is genuine then it is likely to be WGA
that is causing the problems - apparantly its not entirely foolproof
by some considerable margin. The second key not working either points
the finger at WGA not the installation.

There are WGA work arounds aplenty just google, that will keep you
going until M$ sort it out, don't hold your breath though there has
been plenty of coverage of "pirates" cracking WGA in under a week,
but I have not seen a lot regarding the huge problems it has caused to
legit users suddenly cut off by WGA, yet.

I would post the work arounds but it upsets certain MVPs who call such
posts "worthless"

meanwhile

This is useful; and "worthless" of course sorry Carey.

See why posting CD keys is a bit of a lame idea now there are 2 more
genuine keys in circulation and it does not matter if they validate or
not.

The Product Key affixed to the bottom of the laptop
will only work with the laptop manufacturer's original
Windows XP Reinstallation CD originally furnished
with the laptop. It is not valid with a generic Microsoft
OEM Windows XP CD unless you originally affixed the
sticker yourself to the laptop when you originally installed
Windows XP Professional.

Beside all the comments about being dumb and posting a client's CD Key, your post is Off
Topic.

None of your post has anything to do with Windows Update service and install Critical or
other patches on the PC.

Please get a clue -- OK ?

I don't think I'd want to be a customer of his after posting the keys.

To you and any other person who is just going to comment on me having a
brain fart.... I already spent an hour and a half on MS phone systems. It was
Friday night. I never left work till 7:00pm. To tell you the truth... I did
what the stupid peson on the phone told me to do. I won't even call them a
tech because you know they are reading from a script.

At this point about posting the 2 keys.... screw it. I knew better but was
brain dead.

BTW, it was post here or pay $35 to M$ to get tech support on something they
broke.

I hope this post gets some of my exhaustion and frustration across. It is
now Saturday morning at 8:15 am. Not even sure how much sleep I got.

So if you are only going to flame about the key.... please read the other
posts in front of you and DONT.
