Validation Incomplete: Unable to Perform Validation [0x80080299]

I had to reformat my hard drive after being hit by a very persistent virus,
second time i had to format within 6 months, didnt have any trouble the first
time with the windows validation but now it wont let me udpate anything.
Tell me what to do. the software and laptop are authentic I should know I've
had it since 2002. I constantly and consistently sing praises to my
co-workers about windows and XP in particular but am beginning to doubt that
now. Waiting to hear back from you, and i hope i dont get hacked while i'm
waiting.
