I have attempted to run Windows update several times over the last couple of
weeks. I repeatedly get this error code 0x80070005 when attempting to
install the Windows Genuine Advantage Validation Tool. Can anyone assist me
here?

appreciate hearing from you if you get an anwer. Thanks Bruce in MD

This is caused by a permissions issue and is not only a WGA specific issue
but can also be encountered when trying to run windows update without the WGA
update being selected.

The WGA Diag Tool located here has been updated with a repair for this
permissions issue. Try running the newest version of the WGA Diag Tool
located here: http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/?linkid=52012

If this does not resolve the issue it should be dealt with as any Windows
Update issue at that point. The following KB Article addresses the
permissions issue when attempting to run Windows Update:
910338 - Error message when you visit the Windows Update Web site or the
Microsoft Update Web site: "0x800A0046"
