Hi,

I couldn't find a approirate place to put this.
But it still causes this problem in Windows Update.

Alright.
I don't know when it happened.
But when I goto Windows Update (that goes to Microsoft Update)
And I click the buttons, to scan for updates.

it hangs, and crashes my computer, and then i have to restart.

if anything that needs validating,, such as IE 7 beta 2 installation, that
hangs and crashes my computer aswell.
if i try to download anything that needs validating, it hangs and crashes my
computer.

does anyone know why i get this problem?
i did a manual update of the validdation active X but that didn't work.

i only noticed this when using IE7, so i reverted back to IE6, and still
doesnt work.
but i really would like to install IE7 beta 2 again. but i can't
because some form of program is hanging and crashing my computer.

i cant do anything...
so anyone got ideas, and could help with this problem?

thanks
Peter

Unless you're a BETA tester, uninstall the BETA program.

I have the exact same problem, althou mine showed up when i installed update
to Windows Genuine Advantage (KB892130) on 8th of Mars 06.
Since then i havent updated with anything, cause it hanged after that
without any error code whatso ever, hang, followed by crash.. and thats
repeatable every time i try to hit any either custom or express update....

If anyone know anything that can help us out, it whould be mutch appreciated!

I'm having the same problems. I've followed all the suggestions so far but
still can't update. And yes I do have a valid product.
1. I've run the diagnostic tool that tells me my product is genuine.
http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/?linkid=52012
2. I've run through the validation page that says that my product is valid

Now when I do the update it doesn't ask to download the genuine windows
validation but it doesn't succeed on the other updates.

3. I haven't tried the following as yet:

Backup registry before applying

HERES THE ATTACHED FILE
REGEDIT4

[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows
NT\CurrentVersion\Winlogon\Notify\SensLogn]

"Asynchronous"=dword:00000001
"DLLName"="WlNotify.dll"
"Impersonate"=dword:00000001
"Lock"="SensLockEvent"
"Logoff"="SensLogoffEvent"
"Logon"="SensLogonEvent"
"MaxWait"=dword:00000258
"Safe"=dword:00000001
"Shutdown"="SensShutdownEvent"
"StartScreenSaver"="SensStartScreenSaverEvent"
"StartShell"="SensStartShellEvent"
"Startup"="SensStartupEvent"
"StopScreenSaver"="SensStopScreenSaverEvent"
"Unlock"="SensUnlockEvent"
"Disconnect"="SensDisconnectEvent"
"PostShell"="SensPostShellEvent"
"Reconnect"="SensReconnectEvent"

PLEASE NOTE

You will have to make the above into a registry reg.I dont know how to ,this
came as a reg txt so it will not copy and paste here.also if your doing it
manually i didnt have a SensLogn in the notify folder but i suppose you could
create 1

1) Save the attached files on the desktop.

2) Double click to open the file.

3) Click file ---- save as.

4) Files name registry.reg

5) Save as type should be all files.

6) Click save.

7) Double click on registry.reg

8) Click Yes

9) Click Ok

After performing these steps go to the windows site and update windows.

And I quote
"i only noticed this when using IE7, so i reverted back to IE6, and still
doesnt work."

None of that works neither...

I can't do anything.
Anything that needs validating, or pressing the "update" (custom, or
recommended)
on Microsoft Update, will crash and hang.

What is this reg file supposed to do? Does it, by any change, allow
us to get by that validation nonsense and get our updates?
