I have a LanStore Caddy that I believe is based on the same internals as the
Vantec. As a USB drive its simply plug and play, to use on the network with
the Vista PC it required a firmware flash (which also improved its speeds
with the XP machines), AND I had to change my anti-virus (!). The drive
would not run on the lan using Avast (neither would the user interface to my
Netgear router), but seems perfectly happy with Eset NOD antivirus.

its weird, the ls works on all the xp machines and its fine
the sata caddy works on other machines but neither will work via usb
on vista.

Vista keeps asking for drivers

not even if i plug in my old caddy that was working before
it asks for drivers now.. driving me nuts..
