using xp home edition, dell desktop, purchased 4-2004. pentIV, cable high
speed modem. have auto update set to prompt for download.
auto update prompted to install sp2. followed steps to update. icon on
system tray went away after a short time, 30 seconds or so. no new prompts
for updates since. checked add/remove programs. no sp2 entries found.

is there a way to verify if sp2 was ever installed?

thank you, len kiesling

if you right click on my computer and choose properties it should say
Xp Home Edition (or Professional whichever applies to you)
Version 2002
Service Pack 2
~~
if it was installed

using xp home edition. i have sp1 listed. the download obviously never took.
i ordered the disk. i have not tried to do a manual check for required
updates thru windows update site yet. i'm curious why i'm not being prompted
to re-download sp2 from auto updater? since i did receive notice to update
sp2 (as previously stated) when it first was released; followed prompt to
download & install. since then, no further notices. i see many folks having
difficulty, & some none at all. what do you folks suggest? wait for a while?
install from disk? or do not install sp2 at all? any input greatly
appreciated. thanks, len kiesling
