Veritas Software causing major problems

I've had the following problems that Windows XP recovery has linked to
Veritas software. Currently I cannot use my DVD writer drive, nor RecordNow
and MusicMatch without everything locking up or acting erratically. Plus
sometimes my computer will freeze on the blue HP screen when I start up. and
to trigger Windows to load, i must hit the "eject" button on my DVD drive. I
cannot get access to Veritas' Update Manager (the pre-installed one locks
up). I have completely reloaded Windows XP using start up disks but still
have the same problem.
