everytime I click on a link anywhere in messenger, the video freezes if I am
using webcam. It will remain frozen until I manually open a window for
internet explorer. It will then open its own window. I tried to install
firefox as well as netscape, setting them as defaults to see if it would
avoid whatever conflict there is, but nothing worked at all until Internet
explorer was opened. Links that freeze the video include those sent from a
friend, as well as the built in links in messenger itself. Is there a fix for
this?

Ex: Windows XP Professional x64 Edition Service Pack 2.
Motherboard info. Processor and Speed and the amount of memory or Ram
installed.
Anti-Virus Program and Firewall installed.
Spybot or similar programs?

I am using windows xp, media center edition version 2002 sp2 on a dv8000 HP
laptop running AMD Turion Mobile ML-44 2.39 GHz, 1.0 GB Ram. I am running
MacAfee antivirus and firewall. Nos spywear at all. In fact I had just had to
reinstall the program as my last hard drive went bad, and I had to put in a
new one. It was the same whether on the old hard drive or new formatted one,
it always locks up the video when you click on a link, until you open an
internet explorer window. Only an internet explorer window will unfreeze the
video, noot netscape, not firefox.

Hi Phillip,

This is normal. Only the Default Browser will unfreeze the video,
because the operating system is trying to open a link. If you installed
Firefox and did not make it your Default Browser, then opening it up, isn't
going to help.

It might help, if you have Internet Explorer 7 or Firefox open but
minimized it, when using Windows Live Messenger and your Web Camera. Go into
your Tab Settings for the Browser and change the settings for the tabs. New
Pages should be opened in a new Tab for Firefox. For Internet Explorer 7,
Open links from other programs in: A new tab in the current window. Click Ok
and if you made any other change, click Apply then OK. Close Internet
Explorer or Firefox and reopen the browser.

Also make sure that the browser you want to use is your Default Browser.

That procedure may help.

I found that doing a clean reinstall of the webcam software and then allowing
QuickCam.exe to launch at start-up solved the problem.
