All of a sudden after a restart, my Vista Home Premium shows me a
windows explorer window when I log on and no desktop If I close the
explorer window all I get is a black screen with a mouse pointer.

I have to start task manager and run 'explorer.exe' then the desktop
appears correctly and everything starts up.

Any ideas as to how to get it back? Does the same thing for any user
logging on BTW.

cheers,
Len

(sfc /scannow) run in a elevated command prompt.without the quotes see if
that fixes it.

Hi Len,

If Kue2's idea does not work for you, you might try doing a Startup
Repair to see if it will fix your problem. This tutorial will show you
how.

http://www.vistax64.com/tutorials/91...up-repair.html

If all else fails, you can do a Repair Install. See related link 1 in
the same tutorial above.

Thanks for the advice, found the answer in the end. Something had
changed the registry entry for the shell from explorer.exe to
explorer.exe C:\WINDOWS\lsasse.exe !! Changed it back to just
explorer.exe and all working fine again.

Len

Len that sounds like a virus........Google : lsasse.exe .run your
anti-virus.If it is a virus & you clean it up,delete all your restore
points.
