Very odd Vista Search problem

I have two documents in the same folder - one an odt document created
with Open office and one a doc document also created with Open office
but saved as a .doc format. Both were edited and saved today.
If I go into the folder using Windows Explorer both show a modified date
of today, 9th June.

If however I do a SEARCH for the document name (both have the same
name), then the .doc document shows a Modified date of today, but the
ODT document does not. It shows the Modified Date as the date of creation.
Now why should that be?

My guess would be that the index has not updated it's records for the
most recent edit on the OOo file yet. If you want to reduce the number
of problems you have with Vista search, either disable indexing (this
slows search somewhat, but also seems to cause less problems) or better
yet, install a 3rd party search utility. There are many out there for
free and just about all seem to work better than the built in Vista
search. Good luck.

Get a 3d party search agent. I can recommend one used by FBI, UPS, US
Government, etc but I'd rather email than post it in public.
Because I already mentioned it twice and now it looks as if I work for them
or advertise them on a Microsfot NG.
So... to avoid problems form now on i can only email in private.

The bottom line Vista search is inferior to WIndowsXP, but faster. They
improved speed by deteriorating quality.

if you search for simplistic or common things.
Not everyone is working with word docs or pictures, or is playing on
computers where Vista excels. Vista should be renamed "Microsoft gaming
platform. No business required."

But they DO have a business version of Vista. They took the Ultimate
version and deleted all the multi-media software. Apparently no one in
business makes use of multimedia!
