Get a Mac. Yeah no BSODs in there ........ that's helpful ...... a
bitten apple does not inspire me a lot of trust either. Lots of people
out there with MACs and with also a lot of problems and headaches.
Try a live CD Linux distribution for the fun of it and you might find
out it might be a Hardware related issue, but it's just an advice,
neither the solution. I've read that it might can be cause by an
external peripheral so you can try unplugging them all and reinstall
...... including video (disable aero also to see what happens) and audio
drivers.
What were you doing when you got the screen ?
If it is software related run msconfig and check the Startup Programs
Tab, Disable programs you know that are not System related. Uninstalling
the latest software you have installed recently might also help.
Check also the amount of System Memory the machine uses when started in
normal mode. You might spot something using too much of it and/or the
system taking it all for itself which can slow everything down
considerably. When it finishes starting up ... does it run just fine?
Vista has also a boot log. Never used it myself. Try digging a little
bit into it to see how it works, and see what happens in your machine
during boot to help you identify the problem.
Good luck !!
