Very slow file transfer

I noticed that file transfers in the same network I very, very slow (like on
a 28K modem). Typical home network setup...

Client 1 - 192.168.1.x
Client 2 - 192.168.1.y
Router (detected as UPnP symmentric NAT) - 192.168.1.1

I run a netstat and I did not see a TCP connection to any 192.168.1.etc
addresses. I expected a direct connection not http proxying or whatever.
Also, I think I should have a choice of allowing only direct connections
(why would I trust a third party?).

Yahoo Messenger and ICQ do not manifest this problem.

Any ideas?

Greetings,

It should work in a local network, and the local IP is part of the request. Maybe there's a
firewall setup on one of the PCs?

None of my computers run a firewall (the service is disabled). On a second
thought, the destination does run the McAfee suite (yep, I don't remember
what is in the suite). I will check that and post the results to the
newsgroup.
