I have just updated my computer laptop lab with this update and all of my
Dell Insprion 5100 Laptops are in a non ending boot cycle... This is crazy.
Am I going to have to reimage the entire lab????? HELP!!!

Same thing happened to me. I lost two laptops and a desktop workstation
because of that update and all three systems are in a boot loop and will not
allow me to revert to "Last known good" or even into "Safe Mode."

I am currently trying to repair the workstation by booting from the
installation CD.

I am trying to find the "KB" number of the update so that I can uninstall it
through the Recovery Console.

All I can find is "319908" on the Microsoft Website, but I can't find a
corresponding number in the C:WINDOWS directory of the afflicted workstation.

Select "Last known good configuration" from the error screen following
the reboot and it will roll back to the good driver.

It seems people got here before me regarding this one.

I just ran Microsoft Update (Windows XP Home) and was offered a Via Storage
Primary IDE Channel. I very nearly installed it too but luckily realised that
it was a Via update and didn't - it sound like it could have been a bad move
so I came here to ask about it.

I have an Intel 856G chipset motherboard so no Via hardware of any type but
I was still offered this update. It may be a valid update for Via hardware
but I'd imagine that it would cause problems installed on non-Via kit. I
think it was dated are released in June 2006 so I don't know why it's started
appearing now.
