Hello,

I was updating several computers in our organization and saw a sound card
update. Upon downloading the sound update the computers that successfully
downloaded it no longer work.

The machines all have (I know NOW) a C-Media onboard AC'97 sound card.

Windows update identified them as Vinal AC'97 sound cards and downloaded
that driver.

I have not had a problem in such a long time with windows update I just
clicked it and moved on. I let me guard down.

The main problem now is since the wrog driver has been installed, I am no
longer able to install the correct driver. It acts as if the hardware
actually IS a Vinal AC'97 sound cards and asks for the Vinal AC'97 driver
when trying to reinstall. If you force it to install the correct driver it
will not work.

Unfortunately System restore is unsuccessful and Driver roll back has not
other drivers available. To roll back too….

The Motherboard is a MSI (Micro Star International) MS-6743 (V1.X) Intel
865GM2 chipset.

I understand this may not be the best place to post this but the problem
resulted from a Windows Update and thought I would start here.

Thank you -Smitho-

Howdy!

Actually we did remove reinstall, update, hacked registry we all took turns
on it most of the day.

We finally did get it repaired in all of our 40 years combined experience
the only fix was a repair installation.

Strange. but I guess we'll call it resolved.

Have a wonderful day, THanks for the reply.
