I had a similar situation happen to me with "screen recording" software.
it turned out to be a video driver (the screen that is).
you might want to have your dad check to see if there's any firmware updates
he could do (the support site of the manufacturer of his computer).
he could also do:
start/ control panel/ computer management
check the error logs and application logs to see what happened right before
the reboot.
