"The video driver failed to initialize"

I have a Dell D505 with W2K and I ran Windows Update (1st mistake). It had 5
updates. On was a Dell Video Driver, which I mistakenly paid no attention to.
It ran then needed a restart which I gave it. Then it came up with only 16
colors and 800X600 as the highest RES. I checked the adapter type and it was
a VGA Safe adapter, which I never saw before. The settings for it had a drop
down list, all the options I figured I couldn't use except "disable" which I
selected. It rebooted again, and upon reboot I got the Blue Screen of Death
and it said ""The video driver failed to initialize". I ran W2K repair and
still same result. Can anyone help??? Thanks

Can you boot into Safe Mode with VGA support?

If so, then you may wish to go to Device Manager and uninstall the Display
adapter completely. Windows will autodetect it on reboot and load the
generic drivers that come bundled with the OS.

Go to Dell and find the support section for your specific model of pc to
ensure you get the correct display drivers for your video card.

Hope this helps.
