Video Driver From Windows Update

I have an evga fx-5700 ultra (nvidia) video card and
was notified thru Window Update that a newer driver was
available. After installing it, it no longer works
properly.
I'm unable to play Black Hawk Down (my fav). The
game tries to start but says it requires a video card
that supports multi-texturing, directX 8, and HW T&L.
Other games (Quake III Arena) won't play at all they are
so choppy. All these games play SUPERBLY before!
I've tried re-installing the old driver, the newest
from both evga & nvidia to no avail. The Update driver
is the only one that will "somewhat" work.
I can't help but think that Windows Update included
an AGP driver update with the video card driver update
and now only those two will work together.
I just wish I could get back to the performance and
game play I had before. Please help, TIA!

NEVER download and install video drivers from the Microsoft Windows Update
site. Always download the latest from the manufacturer.

If you're running ME or XP do a system restore to a date/time before you
installed the drivers that screwed things up.

You can also boot into Safe Mode, open Device Manager, and remove all video
drievrs you find, reboot and try to install the original or the latest from
the manufacturer.
