Viewer updates -office 2003

The yellow triangle continues to announce updates even though my August
security update download/install went smoothly. I checked today and its
Microsoft Office updates. I don't have Office installed on this computer. I
do have the Word 2003 viewer of the correct version and the Excel viewer.
Both of these viewer updates will not install.

Is it necessary to download the 6 MSOffice files in order to update the
viewer files?

I remember reading that if the update system can't find the original installation files,
the viewers will not update.
You may have to redownload the viewers, install them, then install the updates.

I'll consider how much I use either viewer. They came with the new computer
so I didn't install them initially. I can just uninstall and that solves
that! <grin>
Those words could have been part of the install description ' requires
original installation files' instead of proceeding only to announce these
two files have FAILED.
A little 'irritancy' is slipping through on my part towards the update
department <grin>
