Well - the below articles helped me for sure and they are appreciated.
I have a brand new DELL XPS 420 and the newer version of Media Cente
(Vista). I could not under any situation or scenario get the Medi
Center to program my DISH signal from a coax cable using the Del
supplied internal TV tuner. Frustrated I went to this site where
learned that I was not the only one having issues. Here is my story an
I hope it helps others.
1st - I called DELL and requested their help. No luck at all.
2nd - Still frustrated, I called DELL again (the next day) and talke
to a reasonable technician in the U.S., but he really did not understan
what I was trying to do.
3rd - I called DISH technical support. These people are very food an
know their business well. I have never called DISH when I did not get
reasonable person that was willing to help me through the issues.
Here is how DISH and I easily corrected the program issues with Medi
Center. The Dell supplied internal TV tuner coupled with Media Cente
can ONLY be programmed with certain DISH channels (2,3,4) using a coa
cable.
The set-top box from DISH that I was using was my #2 set-top box. I
was not the main box that is a DVR. Furthermore, I was using the coa
for the
2nd TV on this #2 set-top box. This 2nd TV remote is programmed fro
DISH to receive only upper channels. It cannot be programmed for 2,3,
channels. Only the 1st remote can receive channels 2,3,4. I physicall
moved and connected the DISH 2nd set-top box to my office where my DEL
was located. I also brought that remote to my office.
When I went into Media Center set-up it took 5 minutes to program th
DISH signal.
Bottom line is: If you want Media Center to program your DISH signal
you can easily do this by making sure you have the set-top box (eithe
the DVR box or the satellite box) directly connected to your PC and yo
use remote #
