Viewing Hidden files and folders

Hi Dave,

Thanks, Yes I do password protect and I do use a password protected account
but I have other reasons for hiding them, one if some body is just looking
even if they where able to see hidden files and folders they would have to
know where to look for the folders and that would take them time, and upto
now it has not been a problem.

Hmmm, don't see any policies that would affect hidden files.

For curiosity's sake, see if the problem still exists in Safe Mode or when
logged on as a different user.

The only other troubleshooting option I know of is auditing the registry key
& that will generate a lot of data to sort thru.

Search help & support for 'auditing' and read the topic named 'Monitor
attempts to access and change settings on your computer'

Hi Keith

I tried Safe Mode the same problem, tried logging in as another user again
same problem,

Typed Auditing, I have two options, 1. Windows security information for IT
Pros, 2 What information appears in event logs? (Event Viewer).

So what do I do?

Firstly to All many thanks for your help in trying to sort out my Hidden File
and Folder problem, I have got round the problem by reinstalling Windows and
everything is working fine now.

Keith just checked the HKEY and this is what I have found,

First when the tick box for Do Not Show Hidden Files or Folders

Hidden = 2
ShowSuperHidden = 0
Superhidden = 0

second when the tick box for Show Hidden Files and Folders

Hidden = 1
ShowSuper Hidden = 0
Superhidden = 0

So still do not know what the problem was, I have reinstalled all the
programs as before and all my files and folders, and every thing is working
fine.

One long shot. Maybe you already answered this but, have you tried what you
are trying to do on another Vista computer? Just trying to eliminate
you...so to speak. Not trying to be offensive.
