"rubee",

You mean Windows Media Player? Or some other kind of player? Which Update?
Which Operating System?

We'd like to help, but please let us know the answer to these questions.

Sincerely,

Pat Walters [MSFT]

Yes, windows media player. I installed a critical update for the media player
script commands (KB828026), and Q320920 Security update( Windows media player
6.4). They were recommended that I update them after I checked for updates in
Windows.

Boot into safe mode and remove viewpoint media player. It is bad and
garbage. I just hope Microsoft can sue the makers of viewpoint media player
and put them out of business. This is a typical crazy and stupid annoying
person who makes viewpoint media player and infriges upon the copyright(s) of
Microsoft Corporation by trying to pretend to be Windows Media Player. Again
I warn all users who have

VIEWPOINT MEDIA PLAYER to remove it ASAP to prevent further attacks upon
your system

WINDOWS MEDIA PLAYER is legitimate but Viewpoint Media Player is garbage.

I did as you said about viewpoint media player, so hope it is gone. However,
I still can't open my e-mail attachments, since I did the downloading
recommended. The attachments won't open. It says something about X-mailer:9.0
Securitey extention sub 1201. I have no idea what that is. I want my
attachments to open as they did before all the downloads. I can't get the
video attachments to open either. HELP !!!

Viewpoint media player is an anoying media player that is put on your system
by AOL. YES, AOL. It took me forever to finally get rid of it, . just go to
add/remove programs, and remove it. if you have the aol instant messanger,
they have access to your computer and will keep trying to put it on. go to
all of the places where it shows aol, like in programs, desktops, program
files, anywhere that shows where the aol download is, and make sure that the
free aol icon is deleted. it will come back, but you just have to keep on it.
you also can go to start/find/ files and folders, and then do a search for
viewpoint media player, and then delete any that comes up. this worked for
me, and now, i never get it. unless my kids do something stupid on aol IM,
but I had it for a long time, did a search on ask jeeves, and now i am
viewpoint FREE!!! good luck, hope this works for you! Kat.

DEAR RUBEE;
WOW, YOU HAVE SOME ROTTEN STUFF GOING ON. I LOOK UP BY JUST TYPING
EXACTLY WHAT YOU WROTE INTO ASK JEEVES, AND THEY SHOW ALL KINDS OF YUCKY
STUFF ABOUT X-MAILER. SO, IF YOU DO NOT UNDERSTAND WHAT DAN IS EXPLAINING FOR
YOU TO DO, (I KNOW, WHEN YOUR FAIRLY NEW, THAT IS REALLY SCARY STUFF, GOING
INTO WHERE HE IS TELLING YOU. I WISH ONE OF US WERE THERE TO SHOW YOU. GOING
INTO SAFE MODE IS REALLY EASY, BUT IT DOES GET SCARY, AND I CAN'T TELL YOU
HOW MANY TIMES I CRASHED MY PUTER, UNTIL I FINALLY BEGAN TO LEARN A FEW
TRICKS. THERE ARE A LOT OF WEBSITES THAT WILL HELP YOU BY COACHING YOU THRU
THIS, LIKE HIJACKTHIS.EXE, (THRU WILDERS, LINK BELOW) TOMCOYOTE.ORG. YOU CAN
RUN A SCAN, AND THEN A NUMBER OF WEBSITES WILL LET YOU POST WHAT YOU HAVE
FOUND ON YOUR PUTER, AND THEY WILL WALK YOU THRU ON HOW AND WHAT TO DO TO GET
RID OF THE BAD STUFF. THERE IS THIS AWSOME FORUM CALLED WILDERS SECURITY
FORUMS, THAT IS WHERE TOM POSTS ALOT. THERE ARE A TON OF PEOPLE HERE THAT
WILL HELP YOU FOR NOTHING. REALLY GREAT PEOPLE. THIS IS WHERE I'VE LEARNED SO
MUCH ABOUT WHAT IS GOOD AND WHAT IS NOT. JUST SIGN UP FOR THEIR FORUM, AND
THEN FIND THE TOPIC, (AND THERE ARE TONS OF THEM,) THAT YOU WILL FIND ONE
THAT WILL MATCH YOUR PROBLEM, AND IF NOT, YOU CAN GO ON AND POST YOU
PROBLEMS, AND THEY WILL HELP YOU! I SWARE BY THIS WEBSITE, AND THE PEOPLE
THERE. HERE IS THE LINK TO GET THERE... http://www.wilderssecurity.com/ IF
NONE OF THIS WORKS, EITHER GO TO WWW.ASK.COM, OR WWW.GOOGLE.COM, AND JUST
TYPE IN, "what is X-mailer:9.0 ?" YOU WON'T BELIEVE ALL OF THE STUFF THAT
COMES UP, AND THAT WILL AT LEAST GIVE YOU AN IDEA WHAT YOU ARE UP AGAINST.
BUT, LIKE THE PEOPLE BEFORE, YOU NEED TO TELL THEM WHAT SYSTEM YOU ARE
RUNNING, "LIKE WINDOWS 98, OR WINDOWS XP, MOZILA, FIREFOX, OR WHAT EVER. AND
I ASSUME YOU ARE RUNNING INTERNET EXPLORER, BECAUSE THIS X-MAILER SEEMS TO BE
COMING FROM SOMETHING TO DO WITH MICROSOFT OUTLOOK EXPRESS E- MAIL. I JUST
WENT BACK TO ASK.COM, AND SCROLLED THRU PAGES & PAGES OF WHAT CAME UP AFTER I
TYPED IN.. what is X-mailer:9.0. WOW, YOU WON'T BELIEVE SOME OF THE STUFF
THERE. THEY ALMOST ALL TALK ABOUT X-MAILER 9.0, BUT ALL OF THE SEC. EXTENSION
SUBS ARE DIFFERENT. MY SHOULDER IS KILLING ME, SO I'M GOING TO LEAVE YOU WITH
SOME OF THESE IDEAS. FIRST, I WOULD GO TO WWW.ASK.COM, AND TYPE IN "what is
X-mailer:9.0?" AND JUST SCROLL THRU FROM PAGE TO PAGE. YOU JUST MIGHT FIND
ONE WITH YOUR SEC. SUB #. BE VERY CAREFUL WHAT YOU CLICK ON THOUGH, PEOPLE DO
PUT VIRSUSES, EVEN THERE. BUT I DO SEE SOME VALUABLE SITES THAT MIGHT HELP
YOU. GIVE IT A TRY, AND LET ME KNOW IF YOU FIND SOMETHING THAT WILL HELP. IF
NOT, I WILL GO FARTHER INTO IT FOR YOU. MAYBE DAN HAS SOME OTHER EASIER IDEAS
FOR YOU THAT U CAN UNDERSTAND. HE IS OBVIOUSLY MORE ADVANCED THAN I. THIS
HELPED ME TOO, THANKS, NOW I KNOW WHY I CAN'T SEND EMAIL LINKS OUT THRU MY IE
BROWSER, I HAVE A BUG IN MY SENDMAIL FOLDER. GEEZ, SOME PEOPLE REALLY SUCK
FOR DOING THIS JUST TO US LITTLE OLD HOME USERS. I WOULD ALSO MAKE SURE YOU
HAVE A VIRUS PROTECTION RUNNING, AND A FIREWALL TOO, IF YOU HAVE ONE.
HOPEFULLY. OK THEN, GOOD LUCK TO YOU. I HOPE YOU FIND SOME REAL HELP, LOL.,
GOOD LUCK AGAIN RUBEE, I WILL CHECK BACK IN A FEW DAYS IF I DON'T HEAR
ANYTHING ELSE FROM YOU.
SINCERELY, KAT, (CONFUSED_AS ALWAYS)
