Virtual PC 2007 Problems on new Dell Vostro

I used Virtual PC 2007 for about 6 months on my old XP laptop with no
issues. Ran great. I just updated to a new Dell Vostro 1500 running
Vista Business and have several issues.

1. The full screen mode no longer works properly. All that happens
is the host desktop goes black, leaving the guest desktop the same
resolution and "floating" on a black background.

2. The wireless network adapter works, but the guest machines cannot
hit the netowrk through the hard wire adapter. I've tried
uninstalling and reinstalling the VM service on the hard wire
adapter. No joy.

3. There is a noticeable time lag between hitting a key and the
carachter appearing in any application on the VM desktop. Also, the
mouse does odd things that like failing to grab things I click on the
first couple times I try, and then dropping things when I didn't
release the button.

I bought this Dell with top of the line specs, including 4GB of RAM
and a dual core T7300 processor. It runs Vista beautifully.

The only thing I can think of is maybe creating a brand new virtual
machine on the Dell to see if it works properly. The two VM's I have
were created on my old XP box and copied over when I got the Dell.

Any ideas? Anybody ever had any issues like these?

I use VPC a *lot*, and I can say that I have seen strange problems when
moving a VM from one machine to another. By all means try creating new
VMs. The VHDs will be fine.

You might also try uninstalling and then re-installing the VM Additions
stuff.

Mike;

Thanks, but I did just build new VM files on the Vista box and no
joy. I'm still thinking of creating a brand new vhd with a fresh OS
install.

I'm also wondering if it's an issue with the video card. It's an
NVidia GeForce 8600M GT with 256 MB of RAM. Top shelf stuff.

My vhd's are both Windows 2000 Pro. Do you think it might help to
move up to Win XP?

I dunno. I'm stumped.

I don't know how much this helps but it might at least offer hope. I use
VPCs with both Vista X86 and Vista X64 and don't have the problems you're
having so it may not be a VPC or Vista issue.

I have one question, though. Are you using remote desktop to access the
host? When you access the host through remote desktop and then the host
accesses the virtual machine, you get too many layers of mouse and keyboard
redirection and can get flakey behaviors.
