Greetings Brian,
The fix is for your contacts to get their password changed. What's happening is that your
contacts have given their Windows Live IDs and passwords out to a dodgy web form, and that
information has slowly been transmitted to parties who are making a profit by sending you
links to malware.
Additionally, if you're getting messages from people not on your contact list, you can open
up any Messenger window, press the Alt key on the keyboard to bring up the menu bar, choose
Tools, then Options, then the Privacy category and verify the 'Only people on my Allow List
can see my status and send me messages' is selected.
