Virus issues - Windows Live messenger newest version

Good day,

Currently running the newest version of live. Also am using AVG antivirus
software.

Have various people from inside and outside my contact list sending me odd
messages advertising links which most probably link to viruses. When I talk
to these people, not only have they not signed in for sometime, but they also
claim that they do not have it installed at all.

It is getting rather annoying to the point where I am receiving more spam
than actual messages.

Is these a fix for this in the works?

Greetings Brian,

The fix is for your contacts to get their password changed. What's happening is that your
contacts have given their Windows Live IDs and passwords out to a dodgy web form, and that
information has slowly been transmitted to parties who are making a profit by sending you
links to malware.

Additionally, if you're getting messages from people not on your contact list, you can open
up any Messenger window, press the Alt key on the keyboard to bring up the menu bar, choose
Tools, then Options, then the Privacy category and verify the 'Only people on my Allow List
can see my status and send me messages' is selected.
