virus ? ntmarta.dll

Hi everybody,

my friend's PC seems to be infected.

Unfortunately, Windows Defender or Avast stalls whenever I try to run them.
Then, the only way to make the PC work again is to perform a hard restart.
I try to have an on-line scan from the Symantec site, to no avail. The PC
stalls again.

Now, when Avast always seems to stall on either of the following files :
system32/ntmarta.dll
or
System32/ntoskrnl.exe

Is ntmarta.dll a "straight" file or is it a virus ? Just for a try I tried
to rename it, but could not do it. An errror message indicated that I do not
have the rights to do so...

Anyone ?

Thank you very much in advance for your kind help and suggestions.

with best regards,
Daniel (newbie when it comes to PC infections)

Upload a suspicious file at www.VirusTotal.com to have it checked by
over 40 antivirus/antimalware scanners.

Hello Daniel,

SUPERAntiSpyware is worth a try as well.

<http://www.superantispyware.com/>

After the software is updated, it is suggested scanning the system in Safe
Mode.

SUPERAntiSpyware just put up a Online Safe Scan at
<http://www.superantispyware.com/onlinescan.html>
if you cannot install and/or run the current SUPERAntiSpyware product due to
an infection.

There is not one software that will detect / remove / block all possible
virus / malware.

There is no "permanent" solution besides running spyware / virus
protection.

You may also want to install ThreatFire (also FREE).
<http://www.threatfire.com/> This is a good program that compliments your
existing antivirus program.
