virus protection

when you first click the shield and the screen pops up to tell you whats on
and off, the virus protection says that it is off and i tried to turn it on
but it wont work. how do i get it to come on??????

Would you provide some basic information:
Your version of Windows. If you are looking at XP's Security Center, or something else.
Your antivirus product name/version, etc.

It's very important that your pc have a running antivirus. So that's why I'm replying, even though you should have posted to a group other than windowsupdate, where the focus is on Windows Update issues.
