I recently installed Vista upgrade to XP. I now get a message that Vista
that I have is not genuine. I got it from a friend. I want to uninstall
Vista and return to XP. The only XP that I have is a back up disc that I
made when I first got my computer in april of 2006. What should I do?
Please help me if you can.
Thank you very much

Buy XP or Vista.

The easiest would be buy Vista if everything is working.

You have two choices, revert to Windows XP, which will require a clean
installation since you cannot uninstall Windows Vista or buy a legitimate
Windows Vista license (product key) and use the change product key option in
System Properties to become genuine owner of Windows Vista.

Hi,

As you upgraded, there may still be a windows.old folder on the root. If so,
follow the procedure described here:

If you upgraded to Vista from WinXP:

How to go back to Windows XP after you have upgraded a Windows XP-based
computer to Windows Vista
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/933170/en-us

How to restore a computer to a previous Windows installation after you
install Windows Vista
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/933168/en-us

Otherwise:

After backing up any data you wish to transfer to the new OS
installation, simply boot from the WinXP installation CD. You'll be
offered the opportunity to delete, create, and format partitions as part
of the installation process. (You may need to re-arrange the order of
boot devices in the PC's BIOS to boot from the CD.)

HOW TO Install Windows XP
http://support.microsoft.com/default...B;en-us;316941

http://www.michaelstevenstech.com/cleanxpinstall.html

http://www.webtree.ca/windowsxp/clean_install.htm

Then the backed up data can be restored and applications (Those
that are WinXP-compatible, that is) re-installed.

Philosophers killed many more priests than the other way around, e.g Karl
Marx.
