Vista 32 vs. 64 bit

Hi all,

I just placed an order for a new system with a Q6600 processor (64)
and Vista Ultimate 64. However, I have a few questions,

Can I install Visual Studio 32 bit on this box? Is it going to be
much slower since it's 32 bit?Also, let's say I decided to change my
Vista from 64 to 32 bit on the same box. Would that run my
applications slowers or faster since the processor is a 64 bit
processor.

A 64-bit operating system performs best with software
developed and written for 64-bit operating systems.
You will not experience any performance benefit
running 32-bit programs on a 64-bit operating system.
My recommendation is to change your PC order to the
32-bit version of Windows Vista.

32 Bit software is said to experience a 9% boost in performance on Vista
x64. But there are some challenges that still exist to achieve a general
smooth experience on the OS, application and device driver wise. As Carey
noted I would stick with 32 bit Vista for time being. Especially like how
you have Ultimate, you can migrate from 32 to 64 bit in future when things
get better support wise from the industry.

The question isn't whether you can install on that box, but whether
you can install it under 64-bit Windows Vista. The answer is probably,
yes. I don' know about this application in particular, but most 32-bit
applications that run under 32-bit Vista will also run under 64-bit
Vista.

It will probably run at exactly the same speed as if you ran it under
32-bit Vista.

Almost everything will run at very close to exactly the same speed.
There is essentially no performance difference between a 32-bit app
running on 32-bit Windows or 64-bit Windows. To get a performance
improvement with 64-bit Vista, you need to run 64-bit apps.
