Hi,
Does anyone know how long it usually takes to complete the installation
process of Vista build 5308 on Virtual PC? It seems to be taking forever and
was wondering if there are any tips to troubleshooting on whether it is
stuck.

Thanks,
-Matt

For me it took about 5 hours. I have heard reports from others that it has
taken 2 and 3 times that long. Install is extreeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeemly
sloooooooooooooooooooooow under Virtual PC. Once installed, performance
will suffer until you install the Virtual Machine Additions from Virtual
Server 2005 R2. In fact, you will find the experience is better if you use
Virtual Server rather than Virtual PC
(http://www.microsoft.com/windowsserv...e/default.mspx).

I agree...right now VMWare is way better for performance...i get install
times in comperable times as physical and faster when using a mounted iso.

I'd definately recommend upgrading to Beta 2 - it's much better performance
as a whole )

Couldn't tell if that was sarcastic or not... but I'll give you the benefit
of the doubt. I'm presuming if he's got 5308, he's likely to have an MSDN
subscription. If so - he can download Beta 2 now )

In any case, use the vm additions from VSR2 and not the VPC additions. Perf
will be much better.
