My wife recently bought a laptop with Vista home premium 64 bit installed on
it. I noticed something very odd in that there were two directories one
called Programe Files and another called Program Files (x86). Why are there
two directories and where should I be insatlling my application to?

Vista 64 processes 32bit stuff away from anything 64bit, and stores the
32bit stuff in the x86 folder..

32bit applications will install into the x86 folder without any help
required from you..

Hello,

Yes, Mike is right.

In addition, here is an article just for your reference (most of these
information also apply for Windows Vista):

http://www.microsoft.com/windowsxp/u...el_x64faq.mspx

Here is the answer to your question:

"Windows XP Professional x64 Edition redirects the \Program Files directory
for all programs that are 32-bit during the installation to the \Program
Files(x86) directory. Programs that 64-bit are installed into the \Program
Files directory."

Sincerely,
