Vista 64 laptop not finding old Vista 32 backup files

My Vista 32 laptop died not too long ago. Turned out it needed a new
motherboard, and there was a delay on them from overseas. Asus was
wonderful about it and gave me a newer model!

I did a backup right before sending the old laptop in. I can see it on
the external drive where all the backups go. However, I can't get my
new computer to see it.

The new laptop is Vista 64, so I'm wondering if that's an issue.

Is there something I'm missing? Is there a way for me to manually get
the new laptop to find the files and restore them? Is there a way to
move those files manually (I dread this idea, as I think it'll be a huge
time sink)?

Please help me!
