Re-Format Your Computer And Install Either Open Source Linux Ubuntu 7.10 RTW,
And/Or Open Source Linux Ubuntu 8.04 Long Term Support Alpha 6, Just FYI.

Joe,
My sleep mode is still not working. I have followed, as required, all
the 10 steps in the Vista Forums-Power Options and Sleep Mode Problems.
Now, after clicking on the Sleep in the Start menu the computer
immediately returns into the Windows main screen.
I have to admit I have spent a lot of time trying on my own to resolve
the problem.

Now, I need to ask you for additional directions how to resolve it.
Below, I am attaching the output from the powercfg commands I have
run:

Microsoft Windows [Version 6.0.6001]
Copyright (c) 2006 Microsoft Corporation. All rights reserved.
C:\Users\janbog>powercfg -list
Existing Power Schemes (* Active)
Power Scheme GUID: 381b4222-f694-41f0-9685-ff5bb260df2e (Balanced)
Power Scheme GUID: 7bd666c6-7cd9-4fb5-85fc-c48e755184d0 (My Custom
Plan 1) *
Power Scheme GUID: 8c5e7fda-e8bf-4a96-9a85-a6e23a8c635c (High
performance)
Power Scheme GUID: a1841308-3541-4fab-bc81-f71556f20b4a (Power saver)
C:\Users\janbog>powercfg -devicequery wake_armed
C:\Users\janbog>
C:\Users\janbog>powercfg -a
The following sleep states are available on this system: Standby ( S1
S3 ) Hiber
nate Hybrid Sleep
The following sleep states are not available on this system:
Standby (S2)
The system firmware does not support this standby state.

Below, I am attaching a short resume of the ten steps:
Step 1 No wireless keyboard or mouse
Step 2 All the settings in accordance with the Step 2 directions.
Sleep mode on. Hibernate off.
Display off= Hard disk off= 5 min, Computer off =10 min.
Step 3 BIOS set as above.
Step 4 No devices configured to wake up the system.
Step 5 No devices configured to wake up the system.
Step 6 No Screen Saver
Step 7 The Sleep Mode did not work after I unchecked the Load Startup
items.
Step 8 No programs allowed to Wake-p the computer
Step 9 Windows Sidebar off
Ste 10 The Sleep mode never worked so I only ran as administrator the
command: powercfg –h on.
