No. You can never change from 32-bit to 64-bit, or vice-versa, via an
upgrade.

Or get the 64-bit version of Windows 7.
(I'd recommend that.)

Thanks Shenan Stanley, but I already have win 7 32 bit from my 7 year old
PC and I just bought a new 64 bit PC so I can't afford a new win 7 64 bit OS

Sorry, I don't understand that. Windows 7 wasn't available 7 years
ago.

Do you mean that you were somehow given an upgrade to Windows 7 by the
manufacturer of your 7-year-old PC? If so, you have an OEM computer,
and an OEM copy of Windows 7. It may be BIOS-locked to the particular
computer, and you may not be able to install it on your new 64-bit
computer.

What version of 32 bit Win 7 do you have, OEM or retail? Retail
versions of Win 7 Home Premium, or greater, should have 32 and
64 bit disks in the box. If it's OEM, and activated on the old PC,
you may have problems activating it on the new PC.

I have a retail version of win 7 32 bit. I believe the only thing I will
have to do is phone the 1-800 number to re-activate win 7.

*If* your copy of Windows 7 is retail, OK, you can do that. But if
it's OEM (if you bought it at a very low price, it's probably OEM), no
you may not do that.
