Vista 64 won't download website audio/video

Vista will allow me to play streaming video (news sites, youtube, etc),
but will not allow me to download linked video or audio, regardless of
the format. I get the pop up window saying "Internet Explorer cannot
display this webpage". It must be a security setting, but as yet I have
been unable to locate and change it. I don't get any warnings with the
option to disregard any security options, no pop-up blocker warning etc.
I have tried the same websites from my wife's XP machine, and they work
fine.

Help appreciated,

Fitz
