Out of interest I took a look at how big my Vista Home Premium directory
was ...

NINE GIG!

The biggest my 95, 98 and XP were was around one gig, from memory.

I guess it's not a major issue now considering how big hard drives are,
but it was still a big shock to me.

If you use disk cleanup as well as remove all restore points, you will have
less space used.
XP required at least a 4 GB drive before you could install it.

Hi Lukan,

Yep, that's about right. Relatively speaking in comparison to the others you
mention it's about normal. Typical drive sizes sold on new machines now are
around 120GB so it runs about 7.5%.

Win95's average drive size might have been 500MB with an installation size
of maybe 50MB or 10%

Win98's would've been around 6GB with an install size of 175MB or around 3%

WinXP' installed at 1.5GB on average size drives of 20GB or about 7.5%

As with those OS's, the majority of space complaints arise from installing
the OS on older, smaller drives. OS space requirements are typically based
on hardware commonly available at the time of release, and really aren't
made to install on older machines.
