Mike,
I'm sorry if this is disrespectful - but honestly - I am astonished a
your status as an MVP!
I work in IT and I had (and still do for now) a really high opinion an
level of respect for MVPs - I appreciate how hard you guys work and ho
knowledgeable MVPs are.
So I'm just wondering if you've not tried to comment on a subject yo
know little about here?
Bluetooth and A2DP are open standards, so if a manufacturer claims t
have a product that is compliant - then it simply has to work with al
other devices compliant to that standard - end of story.
It seems ridiculous that sony would bother to list compatible device
for these headphones, as there are literally hundreds (if no
thousands).
Anyway, as a quick FYI - I've fixed it finally. So I now have som
bluetooth sony earbuds that work with my gf's mobile phone, my vai
laptop and now my lenovo t61 - none of which were listed on Sony'
compatible products page!
Maybe it's just my lucky day, but all in all it's a right result! N
more will I strangle myself on my headphone cable when I'm sat at m
desk.
As for how I did it - incase this turns up in someone elses googl
results....
I uninstalled any device that mentioned Bluetooth in the device manage
and downloaded and installed the ThinkPad Bluetooth with Enhanced Dat
Rate drivers from the Lenovo support site.
Now, if I look in control panel at the Bluetooth Devices, on th
hardware tab I have 2 devices listed.
-Microsoft Bluetooth Enumerator
-ThinkPad Bluetooth with Enhanced Data Rate.
Next I paired my headphones with the laptop - this is pretty straigh
forward although the exact details will depend on the headphones yo
have.
So, having paired the headphones they appear in the Devices tab in th
same dialog as above (Bluetooth Devices).
Further to this, and this is the bit that tripped me up, if you clic
on the Audio tab in that dialog you should see the device listed and th
services/profiles it supports.
I have bluetooth stereo audio and bluetooth hands-free audio.
By default, my device was connected via the hands-free audio.
This profile is basically for your stereotypical (no pun intended
it's not stereo) hands-free device for a cell phone. It provides mon
sound at 8khz quality. That's fine for a phone conversation - bu
utterly rubbish for listening to music - it sounds like your listenin
to music down the phone!
The other option, bluetooth stereo audio sounds like it would do th
job. However, initially this didn't work either, it wouldn't connect.
Through trial and error I found that if I turn off the option t
'Connect to a stereo headset only if it supports SCMS-T conten
protection' I can connect to my headphones using the stereo profile.
have no idea what SCMS-T is, I know it's not even an option on the sam
dialog on my Vaio, the fact is, it works without it and that's goo
enough for me.
Finally, it's worth mentioning that you also have to go to the soun
applet in the control panel and set your headphones as the defaul
device on the playback tab.
And that's all there is to it - my bluetooth headphones are playin
nicely with my T61 just as I'd expected them to
