I recently swapped a laptop out with a desktop through craigs list. We agreed
to reformat each others computer and use our own copies of windows. So I did
just that and when trying to activate windows it says that my product is
already in use. How do I go about resolving this? I can not get a hold of the
party who has my laptop either. I have the original box disc and receipt for
vista and is rightfully registered under me. I tried to contact support but
they want me to pay 60 dollars because my support period expired. So if
anyone can help me out that would be great.

You need to use phone activation. They may or may not activate you so
play it stupid and tell the phone clerk that you got a virus and had to
reinstall.

Hi LuckyNinja

This happened because you copy of Vista was activated on your othe
laptop and MS thinks it is still installed on it. You just need to do
phone activation, not contact support, to let MS know that you formate
it on the other computer and installed it on this one now instead. Thi
will show you how so you can get activated again.

Or just tell the truth, that you've made hardware changes (MS are not
required to know what they are).

You're perfect at the "STUPID". How about writing a training manual for
other Ubuntu followers!

Read the OPs post. Then wake up your sense of logic. How can the OP
prove that the person he swapped computers with uninstalled Vista? Huh?

With phone activation, it's *always* a good idea to play dumb and LIE.
That is, of course, if you want to be sure you get activated.

As usual, all Bill Yawn can trot out is unfounded insults and no help or
response to content whatsoever, speaking of "stupid".
