I am building a new machine and need to buy a full copy of Windows Vista.

I will be using the machine for internet and my Flight Simulator game. Can
someone please advise me what version would be best for me? Also where is
the best deal to buy on the net, I am in the UK!

Thanks for any help!

Graham

I bought mine online at walmart.com.
I'd start with the Home Basic edition and invest in a really good video card
with a bunch of on-board memory and 2000 MB of computer memory.

Hi Don

Have good specs on my new PC for Vista and will try Basic as you suggest.

Don't think we have Walmart in the UK though.

Thanks again for the reply

Graham

Hold on. Home Basic is essentially XP with more fuss. If all you
want is internet, email and a game (the ability of which to run on
Vista I do not know) I would be inclined to scout around for XP home
and save the fear, doubt and uncertainty.

However, if you have a well spec'd machine, why limit yourself to the
bottom of the Vista heap? dabs.com, amazon.co.uk and ebay all give
you access to OEM versions of Vista. I got a legit copy of Ultimate
for about £130 (having built my computer myself) and I am very
satisfied. I have not checked but I heard somewhere that the OEM
version will allow a limited number of motherboard/CPU changes so you
could think about that.

For what you say you are doing, Win 2000 would be a good bet.
Fantastically stable OS with a bit of power and the ability to run on
anything. However, MS support has stopped although you can still
download the service packs up to the date of termination of support.

I think they'll ship anywhere if you buy online:
http://www.walmart.com/

Hi Snuff

The reason I want the Vista platform is for when DX10 is released. I have
read that together with Vista it will transform Flight Simulator X when it
is released.

Thanks for the reply

Graham

Actually that is excellent if you are in the UK.

£1=$2 so you get a really good deal here and it is easier than the
idea that you may soon have an out of date OS which does not have any
support (although that will take about 5 years they say).

I went to pricewatch.com and got a 32bit version of Vista Home Premium OEM
for $96 dollars (excluding shipping), the 64bit was going for the same
price.
I wonder if there's a pricewatch.com.uk, probably.
Anyways, I love it!
