New to this group, would like to say hello to all...
A couple of weeks ago I got a new laptop with Vista home premium, Im used to
XP Pro, anyway when I try to download any program .exe it shows the dialog
as being downloaded, but when I go to the folder its not there. Ive tried
running it from the Temp file and still nothing. Im tempted to 'burn down
the house' and install XP Pro on it but want to give Vista a fair trial.
Any suggestions? Would really appreciate any help.
Thanks
kisafrg

What happens if you download the file to your Desktop? (Click on Browse
folders, if need be to do so, when Save As pops up, choosing Desktop under
Favorite Links). (From your Desktop you can run it, move it, delete it,
etc). Or does that not work either when you try it?

dean-dean;
thanks for the sugestion and help but alass, that doesnt work either. Ive
tried disabling all virus programs (NOD32) win defender, win firewall and
user protection... I can download and install anything from disk, seems the
IE is whats blocking it, so I lowered the security to nil and still no help.

Hmmm... seems Im locked out of my own computer. I want to give Vista a fair
chance and learn the new OS, but Im ready to go back to XP Pro Corp...
Anyway thanks for the help

Well, try this. When Save As pops up, change the File Name "setup.exe" to
"setup.exx", and then change Save as Type from Application to All Files.
When/if the file hits your desktop, right-click the file (it will have a
generic icon) and choose Properties. Click on Unblock, then Apply, and then
OK. Rename it to "setup.exe".

Does Windows Update download and install its files? I really don't think
its a function of IE, since this is atypical behavior. It's almost as
though you have Parental Controls turned on.

Are you downloading to your personal download directory or some other
directory?
