Vista and error 80070643

I have a clean install of Vista Ultimate + Office 2007, it has never seen an
earlier version of Office.

When I attempted to run Windows Update today I got a message saying that I
needed to download and install a later version of Windows Update, it seemed
to download this and then restart Windows Update, however now it reports the
error code of 80070643.

What is going on here and how do I get things working again ?

Hello Michael,

Are you running SpyBot or Zone Alarm? If you are, try shutting both SpyBot
and Zone Alarm down, and temporarily turn on your Windows Firewall.

Now, go to Windows Update and see if the later version of Windows Update
installs okay.

Please let us know the results.

I am receiving the same error message. I don't have Zonealarm or Spybot
installed however I have upraded some of the Office 2003 apps to Office 2007.
Some of the apps that weren't upgrade are Visio, FrontPage, etc.

Strange ... I just downloaded the WindowsUpdate exe and tried running that.
I get the same error, I also tried in SafeMode and again got the same error.

I don't think this has anything to do with Office ....

I think it's a Vista issue rather than an Office issue...however Vista
Upgrade Advisor did list Office (with some other Ms apps!) as one of the apps
that may have issues when I checked prior to upgrading!
