vista and the laptop

ok, thanks for the answers folks, here it is.
A compaq presario c552 us notebook. Celeron M520 processor @ 1.6ghz. 512
mb ram and 80 gb har drive.
After reading some of your answers I am beginning to think this laptop
shouldn't even be running vista at all.
It came with a lot of crap that I have already uninstalled except for this
anti-virus software, I am not using the laptop right now so I am going on
memory for it and I think it is avista or something like that. The I-con ia
a blue dot with a small case "a" in it. Sorry can't be more help.
Something tells me I should just forget this laptop and look for something
better.

The Antivirus is AVAST! I am not saying it can't run Vista, but it won't run
it great. Although the bare minimum for Vista is 512 you are just going to
be able to get by with surfing the web, email and a little word processing.
I would recommend adding an additional 512 MBs of RAM (even a GB) and run
only Vista Home Basic on it. If you are doing other stuff that memory
intensive or involve multimedia, look for another system.

Well the lighter Vista versions might be workable with 512 but honestly
I think that is the very bottom limit. Don't really want to see anyone
beating a dead horse as it were

Avast Free 4 home anti-virus is the one you are using; and it is one of the
best around, as it does not use many resources.

In your case, that is a big plus.

The processor is small, especially for Vista, and you really need a min of
1024mbs of Ram.

You don't say what your Graphics are; but Video Card( in your case, onboard,
embedded Graphics, which can't be upgraded, and is probably shared, bad!) of
min 128mbs to run Aero.

I assume the comp has Vista Basic.

I disagree, along with a lot of other posters, Andre.

Avast is VERY good on Vista, the same as it was, and is, good on XP.

It also has a 64bit vista compatible version.

Did I say anything bad about AVAST!? I was referring to his system which is
1.6 GHz Celeron and 512 MBs RAM. I said AVAST! because he wasn't sure what
it was. Read my Vista Quickstart Guide, AVAST! is one of my recommendations.
