Vista and NAS

Vista Home Premium.

I have a Targa NAS that is connected to my wireless router. I does not show
up in Vista, all necessary programs are installed. There seems not to be any
firmware for Vista for the Targa-box. The solution is to run secpol.msc and
do some tweakings. But secpol.msc is not a part of Vista Home Premium.
Does anyone have any solutions so I can have access to my NAS.

You can try this in Vista Home since there is no secpol.msc:

1. Run regedit (probably will need to do this elevated) and open this key:

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Contro l\Lsa

1. If it doesn't already exist, create a DWORD value named
LmCompatibilityLevel

3. Set the value to 1

4. Reboot

Hopefully that will work for you. The only other solution is to talk to
the Targa tech support and see if they have any plans to make their NAS
Vista-compliant.

DUH, why would a NAS have to be made Vista compatible at all? Doesn't a NAS
run the smb protocol? Shouldn't Vista be able to connect out of the box
without any drivers to a smb network? More than likely the NAS is running
something like samba.

Cheers.

Older versions of Samba are not Vista compatible in the default Vista
configuration. You have to compromise the security of Vista to use older
versions of Samba.
